The Northern Star Council is one of the largest of 275 councils in the United States, serving more than 37,000 young people and support to more than 15,000 volunteers. It serves 21 Minnesota counties and 4 in western Wisconsin.
Community guest programs could attract more non-Scouts. Schools on field trips can attend the camps or even an in-town program that converts an office into a camp. Additional users to drive revenue and potentially make more family camping facilities more affordable.
Strong school relationships will continue to be a key to our success in recruiting in order to maintain and increase access to the children we wish to serve.
Career Highlights:
- During the seven years I staff advised the membership committee for Northern Star we had three years of total membership growth and the other four years had two or more of the four primary membership categories (Cubs, Scouts BSA, Venturing & Exploring) experience growth.
- Led the membership team of volunteers and staff that created the kindergarten Lion Cub pilot program in 2007 and worked with volunteers and staff to encourage adoption by the National BSA.
- Increased school relationships for recruiting by creating plans with volunteers and staff to focus on schools and school districts with the most impact for youth recruiting. Elementary school access and new youth recruiting increased.
- Fall youth recruitment membership Xtravaganza – a high profile, family oriented, bring a friend event. This free program included age appropriate activities for all levels of the Scouting program.
- Collaborated with pro-bono ad agencies for several fall youth recruitment campaigns to create collateral recruitment materials (fliers, posters, billboards, social media) for all program levels.
- Created a membership dashboard with key performance indicators to help volunteers and staff orient area of focus. See example dashboard
- Created brand new user friendly website for Northern Star – http://www.northernstar.org/
- Created an online unit locator system prior to the National BeAScout.org platform. http://adventureiscalling.org/ is still in operation and has included online registration for over three years.
